I purchased this camera for my wife to use so she can capture HD video of our baby anytime she wants. Its so small, she easily keeps it in her purse without it taking much space. Our Canon HV40 camcorder takes better video but is way too big to be carrying around in her purse or stuffing into my pants pocket. Portability is what sells these little pocket cameras. I compared the features on this camera against its competitors and this one seemed to stand out. I think the biggest selling feature is that this camera is not just water resistant, but waterproof to 10 feet. The battery and memory card are also removable so you can easily pop in a spare if you run out of power or memory. The battery and memory could not be removed on the Flip I was looking at.
The video quality is excellent for this type of camera. I can't comment on the software that comes with the camera since I already have Sony Vegas 10 on my PC. There are downsides however to these small devices no matter which brand you buy. Sound is a little soft and muffled, there is no optical zoom only digital, and low light scenes are not as good. Basically, you will never be able to achieve the same level of quality as those of regular more expensive camcorders but for its low cost, compact size, waterproof feature and ease of use, I think the positives make up for it. Now we can capture all those unexpected video moments and not have to worry about carrying our camera bag every time we go out.
